Jane Street is inviting students who identify as women, transgender, or gender-expansive to spend a few days in their London office learning more about what they do and how they do it through a set of trading and programming classes and activities. Attendees will receive an in-depth look into the ways Jane Street uses math and computer science across their firm to solve problems and foster collaborative thinking.
INSIGHT has three different program tracks students can apply for: trading, software engineering, and business development. No prior knowledge of finance is necessary — only an eagerness to learn and enthusiasm about mathematics and computer science.
- In the trading program, students will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short classroom lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions.
- In the software engineering program, students will learn OCaml, the libraries and tools Jane Street uses in their daily work, and how to put them to use by building a computer game. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of electronic trading systems and write a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange.
- In the business development program, students will get a glimpse into the work that goes on in Jane Street’s business development internship and Rotational Development Program. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how they optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business.
Jane Street’s INSIGHT event will run out of their London office on April 3rd – 5th, 2023. The deadline to apply is Friday, 9th December at 12 pm GMT.
Jane Street will cover all travel expenses to and from London, as well as housing and meals. Please reach out to JSINSIGHT@janestreet.com with any questions you may have.
