We’re starting once again with the “Career Management” course, which helps students choose jobs, write CVs, define career goals and much more. Applications for the course are currently underway. If you want to know what the course was like last year, read Mia Stojak’s experience. Find out why Mia signed up for the course and why she’d recommend it to all students.
Why did you sign up for the course?
I signed up for the course in my third year at FER because I wanted to get a job in the profession, but I didn’t know where to start: how to write a cover letter or a CV. I thought that was the most important thing, that you just have to write those and then it’s easy to get a job somewhere.
I was never good at writing such official documents and so I wanted to learn this skill.
Meanwhile, I was embarrassed to apply for any job; I had the impression that my CV was empty, i.e., that I could only put in my personal details and the fact that I was studying at FER. However, all my preconceptions turned out to be false, and that’s exactly what Nikolina and Tea (A/N. course lecturers) pointed out to me.
Was the course useful to you and why?
When the lectures started, I realised that this course is about much more than just writing a CV and that getting a job somewhere does not automatically mean having a career.
The course taught me that every job I’ll have is important for the next step I want to take in my life. In the lectures, we went through all the important things for my future career. When it was time for me to write my CV, all I had to do was open the notes from the previous lectures and write down everything we’d discussed there.
What did you learn in the course?
I learned that a CV isn’t only about what you’ve done in your life, but also about yourself, your skills, your hobbies and passions. I also realised that the professional profile represents the planning of my life and a systematic realisation of my goals.
Would you recommend the course to others?
I’d recommend the course to everyone, both those who work and those who’ve never worked in their lives. The course has shown me that a job is just a step on the way to my higher goal, and it’s made me think and live my life with this in mind.
