After a positive experience with the course “Career Management”, last year’s student Mateo Marcelić shared with us why he thinks everyone should enrol in the course.
Find out what we did in last year’s course, how can it help you and who benefits most from it.
“Career Management is a course at FER, which was offered for the first time in the winter semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. The course is designed to help students figure out what kind of job they want, get information about that job, and finally what steps they need to take to get the job they want. Knowledge that is useful for everyone.
The course begins by learning about the characteristics of the individual, how things are defined. After this theoretical introduction, we define for ourselves what we possess as persons, what are the skills, interests, knowledge, values, and personalities that we have. With these defined values, you then have to create and find a suitable job advertisement for yourself. You’ll learn to search through your job advertisements and find out what suits you.
Once you’ve defined what you’re interested in and in which direction to look for a job and an employer, you will go through the technique of setting a realistic and feasible career goal. A defined goal gives you a definition of the good or bad steps to achieve it. With a defined goal, you know what steps you need to take to achieve what you want.
You’ll talk about why a CV is important and what it means for you and what for your employer. You’ll learn what a good and a bad CV look like. Finally, you’ll learn how to structure a good CV and you’ll have to write your own, which will be commented on in detail so that it can be improved.
You’ll also learn how to send a CV, how to structure your cover letter and how important a well-worded email is.
And ultimately, you’ll know what your first day in your new job will be like and what you can expect from it and therefore from your first week. What good techniques there are to communicate with your new colleagues and what you can do if you’re unhappy with your position at work.
Personal experience, very positive. For students who’re unsure how to approach the job search, who’re a little confused about how to start, it’s the perfect opportunity to slowly introduce themselves to the business world. The relaxed atmosphere of the lectures and lots of good conversations with colleagues lead to a nice introduction to the end of your studies and the beginning of serious work. In all of this, you get to meet colleagues who can always help you in your job search, so good contacts.”
You can also define your personal values, learn how to write a good CV and cover letter, and find a suitable job. Don’t miss this opportunity and register for the course “Career Management”. Registration is open until the 4th of October – sign up while you still can!
